Crystal Cave, Hiking & Bird Watching

 

We will start our tour at 7 am. We will meet at 8th. Ave between 33th and 34th Street in Manhattan by the Duane Reade. DON'T BE LATE! Come 15 minutes early to check in. You will be greeted by your tour guide and you will sign our liability 

 

We will start the day driving to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Pennsylvania. Hawk Mountain is the world's first refuge for birds of prey. 

 

At the sanctuary some times they have different educational programs designed to teach you more about Hawk Mountain, birds of prey and migration. Programs include: see a raptor up close, trapping and tracking, birding with binoculars, name that raptor and more.

 

At Hawk Mountain you will also have the option of a 2 mile guided hike (Roundtrip) to a very scenic view point where we will be looking for migrating hawks, eagles, falcons and other raptors, (Bring binoculars if you own them) or you can do some shorter hikes on your own.

 

Most of the trail is fairly easy.

 

But you can also do some rock scrambling if you desire. But this is only an optional route, you do not have to take this trail, there is a more flat trail around it.

 

During the hike, you will find several viewpoints with very nice views.

 

At the sanctuary you will also find a Visitor Center, Bookstore and native plant garden.

 

We will enjoy lunch with non alcoholic beverages included in the tour price.

 

 

In the afternoon, we will explore one of the greatest natural wonders of Pennsylvania, Crystal Cave.

 

You will receive a guided underground tour learning about some of the amazing limestone formations and learn about the historical and geological significance that the cave have.

 

                                       

 

 

You will also find a visitor center with a very extensive gift store 

 

We will drive back to NYC.
Arrival back to NYC at approximately 7 pm.

Hines Tours reserves the right to alter the itinerary, plans and arrangements for the tour, if in the judgment of Hines Tours it becomes advisable to do so.

 

WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING FOR THE TOUR:

ID: Please bring a valid government issued identification.

CLOTHES: according to the weather. If the weather is hot you should still always bring a light jacket and sweat pants/trainers, the temperature in Crystal Cave is a constant 56 degrees.

FOOTWEAR: We will hike in a rocky mountaineer terrain which gets very slippery when wet. Hiking Boots is the ideal or if you do not own hiking boots sneakers with good traction will do as well. Do not wear sandals, dress shoes or high heels.

WATER: In a plastic bottle, especially on hot days. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

SMALL BACKPACK: or fanny pack for your water, extra clothes, snacks etc. You will need both hands to be free during the hike.

BINOCULARS (If you own them): Will help you view the wildlife

CAMERA: With extra memory/film is highly recommended. You will experience breath taking scenery.

CASH: Although our tour is classified as an "all inclusive". It is advisable to bring some cash for souvenirs, snacks for the bus ride back and gratuities for the guide which is left to your discretion.

AN OPEN MIND: Although this is a recreational/leisure tour, you will also learn about the geology and history of some of our natural wonders.
